Connemara's Rising

The musings of a common sense, independent, laid back, nature-enjoying, baseball-worshipping, Wrigley-adoring, literate, informed, and, yes, white male. And maybe, just maybe, I'll find what I'm looking for.

A template of thoughts...

So I have decided once again that I am way too fat. I am not a lumbering beast or a monster out of nightmares, but I am becoming quite rotund. The weeks of pizza and McDonalds have added up to a waist line Bennett Brower would be proud of. So this week begins my semi-annual get in shape craze. I'll go hardcore for 5 weeks or so, then massively injure myself and be back on the Quatro's and Dr. Pepper diet before I know. Oh the vicious cycles of being an American.

On a slightly different note, I am utterly frustrated with my developmental biology class. It's all lecture and only four exams (like most science classes these days), but the professor INSISTS on jumping around the lecture material and handouts. He goes from the 2nd paragraph on handout 18c to page 314 in the book. Needless to say, there is little chance to gain a full appreciation of what the hell is going on without spending countless hours pouring over these ridiculous little handouts. The class average on the 1st exam was a 64. Now I realize in some majors (namely engineering and computer science) there are classes where a 64 is an A. But in the life sciences, that is amazingly low. It is just overwhelming and frustrating.

In Other News...

a) Ralph Nader entered the race. No way will he be a factor this year. This is common sense and if anyone can't figure out why, you must not understand what the term "liberal" means.

b) I am waiting with unbridled enthusiam as the Person of the Year announcement comes closer and closer. I think Jesus has to be a frontrunner.

c) Wow. The Big Ten sucks. Michigan slaughtered Wisconsin. If they get more than 3 teams, the NCAA tourney is becoming a sham just like the BCS.

d) I have a question. And this is open for anyone to answer without reproach. What, to you, correlation should be made between society and political correctness, and the use of affirmative action based on race? I mean...how come if you're raised white and poor you lack 50% of the governmentally sponsored opportunity compared to poor blacks or other minorities? Something doesn't seem right. Poor is poor, but apparently not in this country. There are more whites below the poverty line than blacks or hispanics, but just because there are more rich whites, it is completely overlooked. I'm just wondering why some people think this is ok. Any thoughts out there?
